WINGS OVER WAIRARAPA 2011 – SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE!!

December 2010

Trust House Wings Over Wairarapa 2011 will take place at Hood Aerodrome in Masterton on Friday 21 to Sunday 23 January 2011.  Widely regarded as one of Australasia's largest and fastest growing air shows Wings Over Wairarapa rivals any show for display content and reputation.

As the flying programme for the show is revealed it becomes apparent that true to the show's philosophy, Wings Over Wairarapa will once again give a unique pictorial account of the history of aviation.  While obviously celebrating the historical significance of military aircraft with two MXI spitfires, a Corsair, a P51 Mustang and two P40 Kittyhawk's being just some of the stars from WWII and the Masterton based Vintage Aviator Collection displaying the largest privately owned collection of WWI in the world, Wings Over Wairarapa 2011 will also feature some other spectacular aircraft.  For the first time in New Zealand three Czechoslovakian Albatross L39 jets will display in formation along with three jets from the Vampire stable.  Always a show stopper there will be topdressing displays by an Air Tractor, Cresco and Ag Cat.  The RNZAF's Red Checkers Display team will enjoy its first outing in over a year and their Boeing 757, Hercules and the crowd favorite Iroquois helicopters will also perform.  As if not enough the Tiger Moths will be doing aerobatic and agricultural displays, helicopters and model aircraft will feature, Doug Brooker will again impress with his aerobatic display in the MX2 and the Yak Formation Aerobatics Team will repeat the success of their own version of an Air Race as they did in 2009.

“Wings Over Wairarapa has always prided itself in showcasing all aspects of aviation from the historically significant vintage aircraft to the more contemporary and the 2011 show will be no exception” says Liz Pollock the event's manager.  “In addition to the action in the skies this year we will also have a record number of trade site including the Destination Wairarapa marquee which will showcase the best of the regions products, food and wine, kids entertainment, military vehicles and another first the alternate transport area which will feature some fairly impressive ground based modes of transport including the Hulme F1 Supercar and an area for Segway rides!” she continues.  “This year we are looking forward to another fantastic action packed weekend for the whole family – bring it on!”
