How to Get There

Wairarapa is located in the south east corner of the lower North Island.
 
Just over an hour from Wellington and its international airport, the Wairarapa is easily accessible by road, rail and air. A designated Air Show train service will run out of both Wellington on both the Saturday and Sunday the show.  Air charter services will also run daily out of Wellington to the show.

How to get to Wings Over Wairarapa 2011


Train

A designated air show train service will run out of both Wellington on both Saturday and Sunday arriving prior to the air show and returning at the end of the day.  Train tickets can be purchased in conjunction with your air show tickets through all Ticketek outlets.  Coach transfers will be provided from the Masterton railway station to and from Hood Aerodrome.

The air show train timetable for both the Saturday and Sunday of the show is as follows:

 Wellington - Dep c 8:30am - Platform 9
Petone - Dep c 8:43am
Waterloo - Dep c 8:53am
Upper Hutt - Dep c 9:11am
Featherston - Dep c 9:33am
Masterton - Arr b 10:11am

Air

Air New Zealand runs a daily service into Masterton, out of Auckland.  Visit www.airnewzealand.co.nz for further details.

Air charter services will run out of Wellington to the show on Saturday and Sunday.  Further information on these services will be listed on this site once confirmed.

Dc3 charter flights will run out of Auckland and Christchurch to the show on Saturday and Sunday.  Further information on these services will be listed on this site once confirmed.

Helipro charter flights will run out of the greater Wellington region on Saturday and Sunday.  Further information on these services will be listed on this site once confirmed.
 

Bus

Regional shuttle services to and from the show will be provided on both the Saturday and the Sunday.  Further information on these services will be listed on this site once confirmed.

Bus charters out of Palmerston North will be provided on both the Saturday and the Sunday.  Further information on these services will be listed on this site once confirmed.

Come on join the team at Nimon & Sons Ltd for a day to remember.  Travelling in a luxury coach to Hood Aerodrome and back.

Car

Car: If travelling North, come via State Highway 2 from Wellington via the Rimutaka Hill and Featherston.

If you're travelling south, drive via State Highway 2 through Woodville and Pahiatua.

Disabled parking facilities will be available on site. Refer to the site map.

Disabled parking facilities will be available on site to all mobility card holders.  Additional access to this area may be applied for in writing to info@wings.org.nz
 

Motorhome

There will be designated over night camper van parking available within the air field for the duration of the show so transport to and from the show can be on foot! 

As in previous years, we expect a large number of motorhomes to attend the show and so have appointed some local enthusiasts to coordinate this area.  Their contact details are as follows:

You may like to note the following depending on when you are planning to arrive:

If you intend to arrive on Friday or Saturday (after the show) one of the Campervan organisers listed above will advise you as to how to access the van park.

If you arrive on the Saturday or Sunday prior to or during the show you will be directed to a public car park and after the show you can then move to the van park.

Show tickets are available from the coordinators at the gate on arrival or alternatively you can pre purchase tickets from Ticketek on 0800 Ticketek, on line through www.ticketek.co.nz or at any Ticketek retail outlet.

Note there is no charge for overnight camping and as there are no on field facilities (power or water) for campervans you will need to be "self contained", and include you own fire bucket please.
