Wings Over Wairarapa is firmly established as a must see biennial event on the Australasian aviation event calendar. The airshow shares its home at Hood Aerodrome with some of the finest privately owned collections of First & Second World War aircraft in the world, providing a backdrop for a show that is hard to rival.

Aircraft

Over 70 aircraft were displayed over the two days of the show (in 2009) representing a unique pictorial account of the history of aviation. To help celebrate the 10th anniversary of the show Trust House Wings Over Wairarapa 2009 featured displays from aircraft never before seen in the country and promises a level of variety and historical significance to wow the most hardened aviation enthusiasts and others alike.

Dr1While celebrating the historical significance of WWI & WWII military aircraft, Trust House Wings Over Wairarapa 09 also featured displays from other rarely seen vintage aircraft, heart stopping agricultural displays, gliding, commercial & helicopter displays, home builts, microlights, gyrocopters, jet formations & thrilling aerobatics – truly offering something for everyone!

Trust House Wings Over Wairarapa 2011 will take place in January 2011 at Hood Aerodrome in Masterton, which is the largest town in the Wairarapa region (located in the south east corner of the lower North Island).

 

Just over an hour from Wellington, the Wairarapa is easily accessible by road, rail and air, and is at the heart of the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail.

CrowdEssentially rural with off-the-beaten-track charm, Wairarapa offers a diverse experience for lovers of great wine, gourmet food, native wildlife and natural beauty. A designated Air Show train service will run out of Wellington on both days of the show arriving prior to the air show and returning at the end of the day - see the ticketing page for further details. Air charter services will also run daily out of Wellington to the show.

Parking adjacent to the airfield will be made available to ticket holders free of charge with designated motor home and disabled parking facilities also available. Gates will open from 8.30am with the air display running from 11.00am to 4.30pm on both days.

Travel to the show by train on the same day staying overnight at the Holiday Inn in Wellington or relax after a day at Wings in a recently refurbished room at the Copthorne Solway Park in Masterton and enjoy being so close to the venue. The choice is yours but one thing is for certain, this is a must see event for lovers of planes.
